SR-71 Blackbird

An interesting profile on one of the most incredible pieces of technology ever created. Growing up, this was considered the ultimate machine.  I'm not sure anything has surpassed it.  The part about the heat created by air friction at such high speeds and how it causes the aircraft metal skin to expand is crazy.  Even crazier, is buying the titanium for our top spy plane from the Russians, through a CIA phantom company during the height of cold war!

Got to see one of these at a museum in Tucson. Was much, much more impressive than the snap-together model I had in my room growing up.

My dad saw one before they were declassified (he was in the Air Force) and didn't know what on earth he was even looking at.
